Load-It® Selection Centre — Configure the Right Tool for Your Task

Head type, magnetic strength, tool length, and fixed vs telescopic — the complete selection logic from the PSC Engineering Handbook, built as a public resource. No form. No gate.

Work through the four decisions in order. Each answer narrows the configuration. At the end, you have a specific Load-It® MagHead configuration matched to your task — not a shortlisted range to choose from arbitrarily.

Before You Start

Confirm the load is ferrous and presents a viable magnetic attachment surface. If either condition is not met, a mechanical contact method is likely more appropriate. The full method selection decision logic is covered in the guidance method selection article.

Decision 1 — Head Configuration

Primary question: does the operator's position relative to the load change during the positioning task?

Choose 180° Swivel Head if:

  • The operator walks around the load or needs to approach from multiple angles during a single sequence
  • The load's own orientation is changing continuously throughout the task
  • Multi-face alignment requires the operator to address different faces in sequence
  • Examples: structural assembly, shipyard module guidance, lifting beam positioning, large fabrication fit-up

Choose 90° Flex Head if:

  • The operator works from one consistent position with a single, repeatable approach angle
  • The load arrives in a consistent orientation cycle after cycle
  • Task geometry is predictable — same section type, same rack slot, same mounting approach
  • Examples: structural beam guidance, plate rack entry, motor/gearbox installation, production environments

If the answer is unclear, default to the 180° Swivel Head.

Decision 2 — Magnetic Strength

This decision follows from the tool type — it is not a free choice between two ratings.

Decision 3 — Tool Length

Select the shortest length that comfortably achieves the required standoff distance.

Decision 4 — Fixed Length vs Telescopic Pole

Choose fixed-length when standoff requirement is consistent: structural rigidity, predictable handling, lower weight for a given length, simpler inspection.

Choose FG008 telescopic pole when standoff requirement varies across tasks or shifts: maintenance crews, construction sites, mixed-task operations.
