Pre-Use Verification Checklist — Load-It® MagHead Field Inspection

Complete this check before every use. It takes under two minutes. The checklist applies regardless of how familiar the operator is with the tool or how recently it was last used.

01 · Tool Condition

Inspect the tool before it reaches the load.

Magnetic face is clean and free of debris, chips, or embedded metal particles
Magnetic face shows no visible damage, cracking, or delamination
Handle is intact — no cracks, splits, or loose sections
Articulation joint moves freely without binding or excessive play
No visible corrosion on the magnetic face or articulation components
No visible heat damage (discolouration, deformation, or surface scaling)
FG008 telescopic pole only: extension collars seat securely; locking mechanism engages positively at the required length

02 · Surface Verification

Verify the actual work surface.

Identify the engagement surface on the actual load — confirm it is ferrous
Assess surface condition against the five condition bands
Identify the cleanest available surface area for magnetic contact
Engage the magnetic head on the actual work surface
Apply a light test pull to confirm the head is properly seated and engagement feels positive

03 · Operational Confirmation

Confirm how the tool will be used before the load moves.

Confirm push/pull direction with the lifting team before any load movement begins
Confirm the tool will not be used for lifting, suspending, or supporting the load
Confirm the crane or hoist supports the load's full weight at all times
Confirm intentional disengagement will only be performed after the load is fully landed and supported — never while suspended

Remove From Service If

Do not continue with a compromised tool.

The magnetic face is chipped, cracked, or shows visible damage
The articulation joint has excessive play or binds during normal movement
The handle is cracked, split, or structurally compromised
The tool shows heat damage in any component
The FG008 locking mechanism does not engage securely at any extension
The test pull on the actual work surface does not feel adequately positive

Important Safety Information

Load-It® MagHead is an exposure-control aid — not lifting equipment.

Magnetic holding-force ratings must not be interpreted as lifting capacity. The crane or hoist supports the load at all times. Inspect before use. Remove from service if damaged.

Using This Checklist for Toolbox Talks

A shared 90-second pre-use confirmation.

This checklist suits toolbox talk use before lifting operations involving magnetic push-pull tools. The three sections — tool condition, surface verification, and operational confirmation — correspond to the three phases of pre-use verification.

Team Use

Walking through it as a team confirmation exercise takes approximately 90 seconds and establishes a shared understanding of how the tool will be used and what its limits are.

Premium Engineering Consultation

Not sure which configuration fits the task?

PSC's Application Mapping Review examines the actual task — the load, the surface, the access conditions, and the operator's movement — and recommends the correct matched configuration.
